Becoming Harper’s Mom

Harper came into the world on June 11th, 2022. She was 7 pounds 1 ounce, 20- and three-quarter inches long, gestational age 36 weeks. We were with her for about fifteen minutes before she was taken to the hospital’s NICU.

Harper is one of our three children. The oldest, our daughter Natalee, will be seven in February. She’s very mischievous and is at odds with family rules, but she also can be very sweet on occasion. She is also the worst backseat driver you’ve ever seen (seriously I’m not joking!). She takes riding lessons locally, loves t-ball, hates chores and homework, and takes after my love of animals (as long as it’s not a spider).

Austin is our only boy and will be three next week. Like his sister he can be very mischievous. They both have blonde hair, blue eyes, and wide smiles. Austin is more likely to cuddle with me and loves the outdoors. Natalee prefers indoor comforts over the outdoors. Preferring instead to curl up in the couch and watch tv. Austin however, loves mud puddles, bugs, bikes, and anything that rolls, floats or flies.

My husband David and I had talked about having another baby. While the notion was exciting, the thought of squeezing another body into our 2bedroom 1bath home with our then salaries and sleepless nights was off putting. Even so, it was a conversation that we kept having.

In late October we found out with we were pregnant with our third. We were shocked! Since then, we have been on quite the rollercoaster! From terrible morning sickness, food aversion, car crashes, a new job, countless doctor visits, parent teacher conferences, pregnancy complications, and our new baby being diagnosed with a rare heart condition all within 9 months. This blog will be centered around our family’s journey, our lifestyle, experiences and support for others who may going through similar situations.
